Just kill me now, Keto

I don’t mean it. Really, I don’t. I mean, maybe just a little bit. But I actually like Keto. Out of the half-dozen or so things I’ve done to tame this beast of a bawdy lol, Keto is the one I so-far-kinda-sorta like the best. And I only say it that way because I’d rather not follow any “plan” as I’d like to think I have enough self-control and wherewithal to make smart, healthy choices by my own grown-up self. Now let’s all have a hearty laugh over some chicken & waffles and honey Jack…
So… like I was saying, first of all – I am NOT a doctor! So do your own research to see if it’s right for you. But for me, this is what I’ve researched and what I’ve decided to do. I also realize that I am not too proud to accept help (well, at least when it comes to my food choices lol). And so far, following the Keto lifestyle has helped me to see that I may not need so many yummy carbs after all. I mean, with the advent of things like almond and coconut flour, I can still actually have my pancakes with (Kerrygold) butter and (sugar-free) syrup. It takes a bit more thought and effort to prepare, but I cant lie – I’m loving the smaller waistline.
But ok, wait, let me rewind for the people in the back. What exactly is Keto? Since I do not claim to be an expert (shoot, I actually fell off 😂 I’m just starting back up again), I’ve found the following YouTube’s to be a great foundation of understanding.

So with that as a basis, Keto is a dedicated lifestyle where your macros (proteins, fats, and carbs) are measured in a way that your energy, or fuel, comes mostly from fat instead of carbs. And even though bacon can technically fill that slot, it’s probably best to consume more healthier fats like avocado. But a little bacon here and there never hurt.
And along with this keto plan, I also incorporate 16:8 intermittent fasting. Even though it can be a hard adjustment in the beginning, it actually becomes easier and actually a little helpful. I’ve chosen to open my fasting window from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. so outside of those hours I don’t have to ponder the “what do I want to eat?” question. Because regardless of the answer, I’m not getting it! Water or tea only, and it’s nice to not go to bed with that bloated “I just ate cookies” feeling.
“But, La,” some will say. “We thought you were all body positive and plus size loveable! Why are you trying to lose weight?” Correction – I am trying to lose fat. There is a difference.
And believe it or not, you can actually love yourself where you are and still work to become a better version of you.
Wanting to become healthier, have more energy, become more agile – all things that everyone can aspire to, regardless of your jeans size! So that’s what I’m doing and I’ll keep my tribe posted. Stay tuned in for all of my updates and let me know if you’ve done or have tried Keto before! I’d love to hear your thoughts and experiences!
