11/30 to be a dreamer (National Poetry Month Challenge)

when your dreams are so big they seep into the daylight
sometimes it’s hard to sleep
stay grinding
stay hustling
stay working
stay moving
stay sister, daughter, cousin, auntie, friend
and hold a spot for lover, mother, wife
this life is not for that faint of heart

to be a dreamer…
burning that midnight coconut oil
(cause hair gots to stay fly)
don’t lose sight of your goals, girl
you smile
you cry
you pray
you laugh
you scream
there’s always room at the bottom

…but that top is mean

when your dreams are so big they seep into the daylight
sometimes it’s hard to sleep.
